Culture is legacy. SPARK GSO is a Greensboro nonprofit community media organization. We train young creatives, produce professional media and bring people together around the screen.

Our Story
SPARK started as Gate City SPARK and SPARK Cinema: free screenings and community storytelling in Greensboro since 2020. In 2024 it became SPARK GSO, a 501(c)(3), built on one idea: the fastest way to train a creative is to put them on real work.

Founder: Theron "Tee Smif" Smith
Founder and Executive Director. Cinematographer on JAY-Z's Fade to Black and a 20+ year Viacom veteran of Yo! MTV Raps and BET Rap City, with work alongside Spike Lee, Hype Williams and Steven Spielberg.

Brooklyn to Greensboro
A Brooklyn native, he brought that experience to Greensboro to build the creative pipeline he wished existed. He serves on the Piedmont Triad Film Commission advisory board.

ASTEAM Engine trains young creatives. SPARK Creative produces professional media for clients. SPARK Cinema brings the community together around the screen. Each one feeds the others.
